Composite is a construction company founded, managed and staffed by architects.

Composite was started in 2010 as a response to a difficulty in finding quality construction collaborators for smaller projects. Beginning with more manageable small, but intricate projects, the company has steadily increased capabilities and developed trade relationships that allow it to work on larger, more complex projects with a level of efficiency and precision that exceeds initial expectations.

Composite Fabrication + Construction

20 Jay St, Suite 1110, Brooklyn, NY 11201 info@compositefc.com (212) 358 8380

Much of the work – being in New York City – is concerned with adapting existing spaces and renovating or restoring historic structures. The research and technical demands required by technically sensitive conservation work has led Composite to become an essential collaborative resource for GGA. Projects are realizing a high level of construction quality and preservation of design intent and staff is enriched by the exposure to the process of turning investigation and documentation into built work.

Life Edited I

Soho, NY

Completion date: June 2012

Construction cost: $450,000
LE1 is the prototype for an extremely small, highly functional, transformable line of apartments that are being developed as models for sustainable living. Conceptually, less space uses less material, less energy and unburdens the user with the requirement to fill multiple rooms that are only used part of the time. Everything is designed with a purpose - typically more than one - and all furniture is built into the walls and either folds or slides out to convert from, say a couch to a queen bed. All materials, finishes, fixtures andappliances are high performance, green certified and highly efficient. The Life Edited Project won an AIA award in 2013.
