The project is the initial element in a re-envisioning of a large scale development in an archeologically sensitive part of the Big Island of Hawaii. The program is broken into discreet volumes so that the building fits between archeological sites that have been recently discovered, delineated and preserved. The form of the individual structures is derived from traditional Polynesian house construction, and the entire composition is connected by a tiered lava base. The facility contains a restaurant, bar, game room, lounge, fitness center and pool and is that gateway to the larger development.
