The design for the library proposes a building which provides a specific response to the programmatic, physical and cultural requirements of the Czech National Library. This creates an iconic architectural form expressive of the library’s mission and commensurate with the important mission of collection and preservation the Czech National Story in the form of the written word.
To this end, our design draws heavily from the formal and physical elements of both the immediate site and the historic Prague center, while incorporating an overarching building vocabulary which physically and metaphorically celebrates the idea of the collection, storage and dissemination of knowledge in book form.
